Plasser and Theurer 07-16 Track Tamping Machine
The most recent addition to the rolling stock on Shopleigh is a Balfour Beatty liveried Track Tamper, which is made from brass and white metal, by Brittania Pacific Models of Hastings.
The tamper was shown on Shopleigh during the Bedford Model Rail exhibition on Saturday October 26th 2002 (the first time we ran it on the layout!), and also at the Northampton exhibition on November 16th.
Britannia Pacific Models have two versions of the Plasser and Thuerer 07-16 Track Tamping Machine available, one in the Balfour Beatty blue and white, and the other in the BR Plain Warning Yellow scheme, both motored and ready to run.
Although the "kit" is made from etched brass and white metal detailing, the tampers are only available in their built and RTR form. They are motored with a Tenshodo motor bogey, and professionally finished with authentic decals. Update: a kit version has just been launched, which comes with all the parts you need and full colour instructions.
A few extra bits of detail are also included on the final tamper, such as windscreen wipers are on a seperate etching but as we had the display model they hadn't been fitted, and I didn't get the time to fit them before the exhibitions, where the photos were taken.
Britannia Pacific Models can be contacted at 17 St James's Street, Hastings, East Sussex. TN34 3LH. By phone on 01424 442834, or via email britannia.pacific@tesco.net
